We regularly help our or new customers upgrade their Umbraco CMS. We have a lot of experience in migrating various websites and their associated databases. Is your website developed in an Umbraco version lower than 11? Then it is important to take action.
Why is an upgrade important?
It's not only nice to be able to use the latest features of Umbraco. You are therefore completely up to date with the latest safety updates. Security updates are made within each version, but if you do not change versions, that is the level.
What is the latest version of Umbraco?
The next version of Umbraco is version 15 and will be released soon on November 14, 2024. This is a version with short term support from Umbraco.
Umbraco 15 provides important updates to streamline development, especially for larger content-driven sites. With a new rich text editor UI, client credential support, and enhancements such as HybridCache and block-level variants, this release is focused on improving performance and flexibility.
The next version with long-term support is Umbraco Version 17 and will be released on November 27, 2025.
On December 14, 2023, Umbraco released version 13.
Many sites still run on lower versions of Umbraco.
The end of Umbraco 7 has come to an end.
For Umbraco 8, the end is also almost in sight and it is wise to get advice.

End of life Umbraco versions 7, 8, 9 and 11?
The Umbraco development team will no longer provide further support on sites running Umbraco 7 from September 30, 2023. There will be no more minor releases or patch releases. This means that they no longer develop, do no maintenance and no longer fix bugs. But more importantly, stop doing security updates.
In order not to run into unnecessary problems with your website, it is wise to upgrade your website. The chance of being hacked or of bugs occurring is increasing. Umbraco has already reached version 13, so it's no strange step to upgrade to this version now.

Upgrade or new website?
Do you need an Umbraco upgrade? Then that is also a good time to think about the future of your website. What kind of investment will bring you what? For example, you can upgrade now, but you want to add new functionalities in six months, for example. Then it can sometimes also be worthwhile to set up the site from scratch.
